Creative Writing 101

It’s not easy to write a poem
Or a song, so forlorn
Happiness is not a fuel
For the fire that is imagination
Rather the monoxide
That extinguishes whatever burns inside
Pour a little sulphuric acid
Atop the lighter fuel in your heart
Let it burn to ashes
Let the joy wither away
Tap into that perennial vein
And feel a little pain
Forget the straw
Gulp it down
Set your mind wild
A naked child
A thousand horses’ gallop
Earthquake of your making
Close your eyes and suffer
In silence that endures
Slice the flesh and bleed
Words on paper
When you’re done, don’t smile
One step doesn’t make a mile
